History

The Glenesk Folk Museum was founded in 1955 by historian and local schoolteacher Margaret Fairweather Michie MBE, known as Greta. She wanted to capture a way of life fast disappearing and with the support of the local community, gathered a remarkable collection of artefacts telling the story of Glenesk and the local area, which reaches out across rural Scotland and to ‘Glenners’ all over the world.  Ahead of her time, Greta brought the past to life through dynamic living history displays, alongside craft and domestic demonstrations.  She is always our inspiration.

2025 is our 7oth anniversary year
